One of the things I love most about live music is the feeling of inspiration artists can share with audiences when you can see how passionate they are in developing their craft.

Carl Garsbo, better known as Kasbo, wears his passion with pride.

Friday night, Kasbo opened the final weekend of his North American Places We Don’t Know Tour: Part Two with two brilliant performances at Mezzanine in San Francisco. With support from Ford. and Vancouver Sleep Clinic, this was one special night.

Having last seen Kasbo during his performance at Firefly Music Festival in June, I was stunned by the young DJ and producer's sweeping completeness in his intimate, early set.

Kasbo says he spent months working on expanding his live show, and his efforts have paid off. From spectacular new visuals and lighting displays coupled with massive new tracks and remixes to the ease with which he moved between bouts on the deck, playing guitar or using electronic drums and a large drum pad, Kasbo held impressive control over every element.

He told the crowd early in the show just how excited he was to play San Francisco again after bringing the first edition of the Places We Don’t Know Tour, promoting the release of his debut album, to the city in early 2018.

But his excitement was evident. Between songs, he repeatedly flashed giant, boyish smiles.

Kasbo plays with a visible sense of joy. His genuine adoration for the craft resonates with fans in his releases and creates an exceptional atmosphere during his live performances.

The North American Tour came to a close last night in San Diego. Now Kasbo will look to 2019 when he kicks off another string of performances starting with Holy Ship!, which sets out on January 5, before joining labelmates Odesza on an international circuit in advance of the Seattle duo’s inaugural Sundara Festival in March.
