Only true artists are capable of presenting a great show for their audience when things go wrong. In this case, they went about as wrong as they could go without fully ruining the night. Only a few tracks into their performance, the Zion I crew found themselves unable to play their beats. After hailing the WOW Hall as a historical site for their own careers and hip-hop as a whole, the venue lost connection with the group's DJ. A technical difficulty capable of infuriating most entertainers, Baba Zumbi, the face of the Oakland-duo, and one of the group's closest affiliates, Deuce Eclipse, kept their composure and let their abilities shine. While the issues were being dealt with, the rappers traded exceptional freestyle verses using crowd observations and a surprising knowledge of Eugene-life as creative fuel. The two displayed amazing cohesiveness in their exchanges, and relentless passion for their craft in slick dance moves and plenty of smiles. When the DJ returned, the crowd was sufficiently engaged thanks to the intimate intermission and Zion I kept the show rocking up through their final songs. True professionals, the Zion I crew proved that true hip-hop can be performed anywhere when you have the talent.
