Overangelic back vocals, a slapping bass beat and a spacey synthesizer, Bada$$ takes on the nation's racism, and drops the politically potent lines, “Sorry America, but I will not be your soldier. Obama just wasn't enough, I just need some more closure. And Donald Trump is not equipped to take this country over.”
The track is the first preview of the rapper’s upcoming album AABA, a project delayed to early 2017 in November. The release also falls on both the second anniversary of Bada$$’ rookie release B4.DA.$$ and his 22nd birthday. Ironically, the rapper also denied the new president’s request to peform at last night’s Inaugural concert.
Bada$$ shows his usual lyrical command in both verses on the track, and uses his knowledge of inner struggle to do a bit of societal preaching in the hook, using bars such as, “Can't change the world unless we change ourselves. Die from the sicknesses if we don't seek the health.”
After finishing his most successful year in 2016 with his role in the show Mr. Robot and the release of his single Devastated, Joey Bada$$ sounds primed to use his newly-discovered celebrity to announce his position in the industry and the world in the coming year.
